Omar Al Khayyam Restaurant

Omar Al Khayyam Restaurant

IMG_4186copy

Omar Al Khayyam is one of the oldest fine dining restaurants in the country functioning since 1973. Currently it has six branches in Oman.

This was my second visit here. My previous experience was extremely good and I kept bragging about the place to my friends for weeks.

 IMG_4187

Though it was a weekend afternoon, it was not completely packed. Daley and I took a table upstairs.

The restaurant has a pleasant appearance with few elements of the Arabic and Mughlai décor accessories.

IMG_4160copyThe menu

Omar Al Khayyam serves Arabic, Indian, Continental and Indo-Chinese dishes. I had walked in with the King of Butter Chicken (Daley) so that dish had to be picked along with Sweet Corn Chicken Soup (split into two). Chicken 65 was chosen as the other starter.

Sweet Corn Soup (Chicken) OMR 0.900

The soup was okay though it lacked taste. I added chilli vinegar to it but that didn’t make it any better.

Chicken 65 OMR 1.800

Chicken 65 is a spicy Indian starter consisting of deep fried chicken pieces. Daley and I enjoyed this gravy less starter a lot, it wasn’t very spicy yet it tasted very good.

The main course included Butter Chicken with Naan and Chicken Fried Rice. I also chose pomegranate juice for myself.

Butter Chicken OMR 2.500 & Chicken Fried Rice OMR 2.600

This dish should have been listed under dessert, lol. It was overwhelmingly sweet, not a little but too sweet. Daley didn’t mind the taste but being a spicy food lover, I couldn’t eat much.

The fried rice was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. I had it without any gravy but it wasn’t dry and tasted very good by itself.

Pomegranate Juice OMR 1.600

It tasted sour and I didn’t like it. But this was also my first time trying pomegranate juice, so now I think I’m not very fond of this flavour.

I didn’t expect this disappointment from Omar Al Khayyam because my previous episode was so good. I remember having  few prawns dishes which tasted absolutely brilliant. Maybe I should have ordered them, sigh.

The Palace Restaurant

The Palace Restaurant

The Palace Restaurant & Lounge in Al Khwair-Muscat. It was inaugurated recently few months ago by un Omani woman  (Rawan Al Nazwani). The restaurant design is quite great, elegant and comfortable. It has two floors. Moreover the menu is a generous. It offers a wide range of cuisines from the most famous kitchens all over the world. You can enjoy eating all types of food, rice, pasta, burger, pizza....etc.

Tow weeks ago, after hearing about this restaurant, I went there with my friends to have a lunch together. We were a group of eight, so first I talked to them for preparing a table for us. The staff was so kind and they welcomed us happily.Actually we were surprised about the vastness and the design of the place. It was very beautiful.

After that, the waiter came to us with the menu for choosing what to eat and what to drink. Actually it was hare to decide, because the menu isn't supported with food pictures or even description and ingredients.

while we waiting for the lunch, they entertain us with a mint drink and vegetables pasty.

We have ordered a Baryani Chicken as a main course. It was quit yummy and delicious. Also we wanted to test their pasta, so we choose two typs.

Baryani Chicken  6.000 OR

Chicken Petso 6.000 OR

Arabiata 5.000 OR
Actually both two types tasted very good. Suitable relishes and flavors and a lot of chees as I like. Any way, I fall in love with Chicken Petso. It was very yummy because the excellent choose of hers and this is what gives it the green color.

We tried two types of pizza. The two were quit delicious and nice. Pizza is my favorite cuisine, so I like it in all cases.

Peperoni Pizza 3.000 OR Medium size

Margarita Pizza 3.000 OR Medium size

Also we ordered Fusion Fries as un appetizers it was 2.900 OR and Chicken Caesar for salad and it was 2.700 OR, but I don't have photos for them and I didn't find any online.

For drinks some choose Pepsi and others Smoothie Strawberry.

 Smoothie Strawberry  3.000 OR

The box of collecting money

The bill was about 44,800 OR

The Jungle

The Jungle

IMG_4770

The Jungle is one of the most beautiful dining places in Oman. With the look and feel of an actual rain forest, you can tell that a huge amount of money has been spent in creating this restaurant. This indoor jungle takes your breath away with its lush green plants, artificial rain and animal replicas. After you walk through the pathway in the jungle, the restaurant doors welcome you into a huge cave themed interior.

The Jungle is a multi-cuisine restaurant wherein the menu comprises of Middle Eastern, Indian, Pakistani and Italian dishes. There’s a good number of vegetarian dishes as well.

The menue :

Dinosaur’s Egg Drop OMR 2.500

We started our meal with a sweet corn chicken soup named as Dinosaur’s Egg Drop. I tried my best not to think of dinosaurs. The soup was good but it could be better with some more pieces of chicken in it.

IMG_4716COPY
Reshmi Kebab OMR 1.500

For appetizers, we selected Reshmi kebab and stuffed tandoori mushrooms. Disappointingly the reshmi kebabs starter was quite a small portion with 3 pieces only and there was no dip/sauce served with it.The chicken lacked spice but still tasted good.

Watermelon Fizz OMR 1.500

For drinks, I ordered a Watermelon Fizz and a soft drink. The watermelon beverage looked beautiful and tasted amazing.
Our main course comprised of Omnivore burger and lamb Rogan Josh with naan. Fried sausage and barbecued corn on the cob were selected as side dishes.

IMG_4713copy
Omnivore burger OMR 4.000

The omnivore burger was an unsuccessful meat patty between two slices of buns. A good portion of French fries accompanied the burger and condiments included lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and a slice of cheese. The meat lacked freshness and I swear I could cook up a better burger. Again, only ketchup was given as dressing. This dish was really not worth its price.

Fried Sausages OMR 2.500

The fried sausages tasted good. They were accompanied with a good amount of french fries too.

Chocolate Molten Lava Cake OMR 3.500

For desserts, we ordered a chocolate molten lava cake. It had a very nice presentation and tasted superb. Two small round cakes were served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The warm chocolate lava oozed out beautifully.

The Jungle is a very pretty restaurant with attentive and friendly staff and we had no complaints in terms of service. The pricing isn’t entirely expensive but it isn’t cheap either and there is an additional cheeky 13% tax. Although some of the cooking missed the mark, I see a lot of potential in this restaurant. It has a very stunning ambience that attracts crowd easily but the food definitely needs to be improved.

Slider Station

Slider Station

logo

Slider Station is the first conveyer belt burger joint in the world and thanks to Basil Al Salem, the founder, we are blessed with this gorgeous restaurant in the Middle East. (B+F Roadside Diner is also owned by him).

In Oman, both the restaurants belong to Sadiq Al Lawati and recently he added a new restaurant to his franchisee list – Shabestan which serves authentic Iranian cuisine.

Slider Station can be assessed as an “industrial chic” restaurant which takes on the concept of an American Gas Station in the 40s providing customers a wide range of American tapas, grills and freshly prepared desserts from its in-house chocolateire.

IMG_4774
IMG_4771

The décor at Slider Station simply oozes cool with its chocolaty interiors, decorative bulbs, barrels supporting their amazing sauce collection and a giant chalkboard with a labeled diagram of beef cuts.

The restaurant also has an outdoor seating area which is open during winters. It faces the beautiful Qurum beach and even the diners can see this view through the glass wall which is on one side of the restaurant.

IMG_4773

The variety of sliders is crazy and every single one of them tastes different than the other. In this visit
we ordered Maple Sticky Buffalo Wings, Delta Force Fries and five different sliders. The food was sent to us on the conveyor belt preceded by a table number.

Maple Sticky Buffalo Wings OMR 3.500

The Buffalo wings were so beautiful to look at and tasted even. These wings were really tasty and I like them better than the ones at Buffalo Wings & Rings. The chicken besmeared with sticky sweet maple sauce, this dish will definitely leave you craving for more.

IMG_4779COPS
Delta Force Fries OMR 2.950
Delta Force is a bed of fries blanketed with jack and cheddar cheese, grilled onions, jalapenos, westcoast sauce and maple sticky buffalo crisps. The combination of these flavours was truly finger licking good.

Dynamite OMR 0.950

Grilled onions, jalapenos, batter fried chicken, cheddar cheese and Chipotle make up the Dynamite. The flavours were on fleek and it’s hard to eat this little delight with etiquette.

Dangerous OMR 0.950

Dangerous is my favourite slider here and the only slider which has a coloured bread to imply the dangerousness of this little burger and how it makes you fall in love with it irrevocably. Just kidding, that was my logic.
As usual, the slider tasted wonderful with its soft bread (it’s really soft! I mean it!) and its delicious contents comprising of breaded fried chicken with melted Jack cheese, jalapenos, shredded lettuce, chimichurri aioli and loads of Sriracha added by me.

IMG_4793cops
Mushroom & Swiss OMR 0.950

The Mushroom & Swiss slider was simple yet full of flavours with a delightful combination of beef, swiss cheese, grilled mushrooms and onions sandwiched between the soft white bread.
IMG_4796cops
Westcoast OMR 0.950
Westcoast slider is made up of onions, lettuce, tomatoes and chicken drizzled with a generous amount of westcoast sauce. Yumm. The slider yielded a good flavour, but the chicken was a bit dry.

IMG_4797cops
Fire House OMR 0.950

The Fire House included cajun onion strings and pickles covered with firehouse sauce. The crunchy fillings and amazing flavors did not disappoint.

Slider Station is an excellent dine out place with an impressive ambience and great food. The prices are reasonable enough for the flavors delivered and as for the service, I thought it needed to be more attentive. Besides the awesome food, the charm of the restaurant is probably what draws the crowd. Overall we had a pleasant experience and I will happily come here again to try out their other dishes.
Total billing for two starters, five sliders and four soft drinks: OMR 15.540

  • Ambience: 9/10
  • Service: 7.5/10
  • Food: 9/10
  • Price: 8/10
